Professor Ross Hunter is a consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist (specialist in heart rhythm management). He has over 20 years of experience and has been an arrhythmia specialist for over 15 years. He is the Clinical Director of Arrhythmia Services at The Barts Heart Centre, the largest cardiac centre in the UK and one of the largest in the world. He leads a team of 26 excellent arrhythmia and devices consultants in providing 24/7 care for complex cases from around the UK. His previous roles at Barts have included Director of Arrhythmia Research and Lead for AF services. The Barts arrhythmia unit was recently commended in the houses of parliament for innovations in arrhythmia care when given several awards by the Arrhythmia Alliance during “Heart Rhythm Week”.

He is an internationally recognised specialist in the management of arrhythmias. He performs catheter ablations for all arrhythmias and according to NICOR, he performs approximately 200 complex catheter ablations per year making him consistently one of the highest volume operators in the UK for catheter ablation. He also implants, revises and extracts the full range of pacemakers including biventricular pacemakers, ICDs, sub-cutaneous ICDs and leadless pacemakers. He is at the forefront of his specialty and has rare expertise at the cutting edge of new techniques and technologies in the fields of ablation and pacing including robotic technology, 3D mapping systems, and cryoballoons. He has high success rates and very low complication rates and a track record for helping patients with difficult problems, such as complex repeat procedures for those with previously failed ablation, patients with structural heart disease or other high-risk cases.

Professor Hunter completed a BSc in cardiovascular medicine at Imperial College London in 1998 and was awarded his medical degree (MBBS) with distinction at Guy's, King's & St Thomas' in 2001, Professor Hunter obtained a PhD in novel methods for mapping and ablation of persistent atrial fibrillation. During this time, he was a finalist for both the British and the US Heart Rhythm Society Young Investigator of the year award in 2011. He continues to lead research in this area to advance our understanding of arrhythmias and pilot new techniques to improve outcomes.

He has published over 150 research papers in the field of arrhythmias on PubMed. He is an elected council member of the British Heart Rhythm Society, an expert advisor to NICOR and a board member of the BHRS multicentre trials group. He is also editor-in-chief of Cardiac Rhythm News. He continues to develop new techniques and technologies to investigate and treat arrhythmias, runs clinical trials and supervises PhD students.

He sees patients with palpitations, fatigue, breathlessness and chest pain. He currently practises privately in London at One Welbeck Heart Health and the London Bridge Hospital. He also practices in Berkshire at The Bridge Clinic in Maidenhead.

In 2018, Dr Kirkor founded the Algocells clinic with his friend and colleague Dr Martynas Juozaitis. They created this clinic in affiliation with Regenexx, the renowned pioneering regenerative orthopaedic organisation from the United States. Algocells focuses on regenerative medicine (stem cells and platelet-rich plasma) for musculoskeletal conditions and spine pain, and is the first Regenexx service in the UK.

He is also an experienced medicolegal expert witness in his area of expertise and has provided medicolegal services since 2011. Furthermore, Dr Kirkor is involved in regenerative orthopaedic research and his work has been published in scientific peer-reviewed medical journals.
